By: Strategy and Accountability Chair Ryan Reyna (District A)

Updates from March 9th Meeting:

  • Follow up on Board Member Tim Beaty’s request to look Board Meeting Minutes

    • Put forward a recommendation to offer more detail in Board Minutes on Board direction and during add/delete work sessions to give early indication of support or not support for motions

  • Had a presentation from Dr. Finney, Ms. Sanders and Ms. Black on how the Division is trying to expand work based learning opportunities for students at Alexandria City High School and in the career exploration opportunities for middle schoolers

    • How this aligns with the State’s 3E framework and accountability system

    • Highlights: Students are getting more job shadowing opportunities and potential expansions of partnerships with regional actors and Community Colleges for youth apprenticeship or internship opportunities

      • Chair Reyna was able to join a meeting with the partners and is excited for these potential partnerships

  • Two important dates for the community to be aware of :

    • April 9th - City Council add/delete deadline

      • This is a potential opportunity for Council members to add additional dollars to support the School Board’s requested budget

    • April 18th - City Council public hearing on potential tax rate increase that could help pay for some of the requests from this Board and others

The next meeting of the Strategy and Accountability Committee will be in person on Monday April 13th at 5pm at the Board Room

  • Will discuss two things:

    • Following up on the work session with Dr. Page where the Board looked at the Data Book and Strategic Plan implementation

      • Will explore how this Board can be helpful in looking at the outcomes and work plans being set for next year

    • Looking at stipends for Support Staff

      • How they are decided upon, the amounts set and how they compare across regional schools and divisions
