1. Renaming Petition Process.
The School Board approved on December 18, 2025:
The renaming of four school areas (Parker-Gray Stadium Field, the Alexandria City High School Minnie Howard Campus Field, the Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School Library, and The Early Childhood Center Garden).
That the Superintendent would develop and bring this process forward to the Board.
That The Office of Communications will report on this action.
ACPS has a Policy which deals with the Renaming Process. The Operational Excellence Committee focus is on the implementation process. We should have this policy in place by the end of the year.
2. School Board Website.
The Website (https://www.acpsschoolboard.com) launched on January 16, 2026.
It aims to enhance transparency and provide access to information about the School Board. The Website primarily deals with strategic-level information, whereas the ACPS website concentrates on operational or day-to-day details.
3. School Board Development.
The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) provides programs to enhance board effectiveness. The Chair and I met with the VSBA point of contact and decided to proceed with selection dates for our upcoming customized board development training.
